  • Ok I cant figure this out, is this clutch slippage??

2000 Bird, V6, Manual, 78,500 miles, heres the issue

So last night was the last tunage in a line of crap I did:

    New sparks and wires
    Oil
    Tranny Fluid
    Fuel Filter
    Fuel System Cleaner
    Air Filter cleaning (K&N)

After all this, car runs great, cept one thing that still WILL NOT go away, and I dont think its slippage but maybe.

When I go from 1st to 2nd, the car jolts as I start to gas it again, not ALWAYS but 90% of the drives. I have no idea what it is, I thought maybe it was not getting right amount of fuel, so fuel filter change. That fixed take off, it no longer sputters at all from 1st, but when I go to 2nd its noticeable.

The car never feels like its gonna die tho. I know my Synchros are out of line, bc sometimes going from neutral to first from a stop it wont go into first! Someone help, I cant figure this out, new clutch?? I was thinking Spec Stage 3 since I wanna get a valvetrane upgrade and a SC.

That could mean it's time for a new clutch. My clutch never slipped, but sometimes I had a hell of a time getting it into gear. Turned out I just needed a new clutch.

Your flywheel may be glazed and causing the jolt. If you're gonna tear it apart, I'd have it resurfaced and install a new clutch. Yes, spec 3 or centerforce is the way to go.

You're probably looking about $300 for a clutch install at a shop. You should also have your flywheel resurfaced while everything is apart. It's a good insurance investment.

its really not that difficult of a job. after u get the tranny out, just unbolt the clutch and flywhell get it resurfaced for probably around $30 replace flywheel and new clutch with ARP bolts and locktite. when mine goes, im gonna do it myself.....id rather spend the 300 on another mod

Gettin my tranny off will be a ***** considering I dont have a lift.

Im pretty sure its not misfire, it very well may be, I just did my plugs a few weeks back, I didnt gap them tho, so that could be the only reason. At first I plugged the wires into the wrong dis caps, bad misfires, but I got it all strait and its been runnin fine, I think this is a tranny issue. The plugs and wires are brand new, but Ill check.

Could it also be my drivebelt? I was gonna order a new one soon, mine seems to be cracking from wear and tear, could that be slipping?

                  4 rhino ramps= ghetto lift!
im noit sayin it will be easy just that after the tranny is removed its a pretty straight forward process

i was gonna stick the bird up on 4 floor jack-stands then use my 3ton jack to lower the tranny when I unbolt it.
