  • What did you do?

I see all kinds of posts about gear changes and then tuning the pcm. Some talk about using a y87 vin, others the speedo calibrators from some of the companies like slp and grantelli(sp?), and then others just bought tuning software. Now the problem I am running into is my mech said he would need both vehicles for the reflash. The speedo calibrators don't fix the shift points, and tuning software is way too expensive for me at the moment. Just wondering what people have done. I seriously need to replace my pinion bearing and I figure I might as well go from open 3.08's to posi 3.42's and I need to fix the speedo.

The mech should be able to change it since 3.42 was a stock gear.

I bought a 3.42 pcm from intense for 99.00 to fix the shiftpoints and make the car run cooler. And I bought an intense speedo calibrator for 99.00 to fix the speedo.

Shouldn't the 3.42 pcm have fixed the speedo?

yes the intense file would have fixed the speedo, shift points, and recalibrated some torque management for the new gear ratio..it is the standard intense file..this is the same one i bought..and then used HP Tuners to flash it onto my PCM..i ended up just buying HP Tuners because the Chevy dealers around here would not flash my PCM for me..now that i have it i am VERY glad i bought it..and would certainly recommend it

I will definetly be getting a HP tuner as soon as I have the $500 bucks. I'm saving pennies as we speak.

nah, someone else might need it when they want to swap their rear, I'll leave it on for reference.

for some reason the 3.42 pcm did not fix my speedo? I thought it did at first but when i went on the highway and people were passing me when my speedo said 100 I knew it wasnt fixed.

That one will work, sorry about that. I have my original data back home (I am at school) found it though in my email. This one is correct and will work with 3.42 gears.
