How hard would it be for me to take out my 3.23's and put in some new 3.73's on my 3.4l firebird? About how many hours would this take also?

A rear end gear swap is a bit lengthy. You're going to need to get a new bearing pressed on your pinion shaft...find a reputable machine shop! (shouldnt be but like 10 bucks...) But personally I agree with navyblue2000 , 3.73s are probably a little extreme--even for the 3800s. actually, ive been informed that if you go 3.73s in a 3800 you end up hurting your 1/4 mi times because the car's top speed is less than 90mph. now, this is only what ive been told...
My suggestion, get a rear end from a salvage yard. Throw the gears you want in there (or buy one off of a wrecked LS1 and get the 3.42s). Then bolt that up instead. If you get the complete rear end (with the disc brakes) then you're giving yourself a brake upgrade also!! That's actually what im in the process of doing... my car's rear is all apart in my shed! But that's ok, i'll finish after classes tomorrow.
