anyone know what the highest you can get up to without breaking something in the drivetrain? I've gotten my 2000 firebird up to 120mph, dont know if its safe to go any faster without breaking anything.

The first thing you might to look at is the speed rating of your tires. I wouldn't exceed the speed rating of your tires or you are asking for trouble.

well, if you have a one-piece driveshaft (was 2000 when V6's came with them also?), then you essentially have the same drivetrain as LS1 cars do, just minus the gobs of HP. They're governed at 168mph, so the car can handle at least that. But yeah, better make sure you got some good tires at that speed....

I govern out at 118 mph. I wouldn't go any higher than that regardless if I didn't have some nice z rated tires.

Nothing will kill you quicker than disintegrating tires at 150mph.

The speed limiters are set at 118 because that is what the standard tires that came from the factory are rated for. The optional (from the factory) GoodYear Eagle HP is speed rated for 130.

for some reason i remember a post about this where someone tested it and said it was 140something (with the governor removed of course)... and of course that started a big flame war and nobody agreed... i dunno, do a search in gen tech.

On this same subject, whats the best way to remove the speedlimiter on a 96 3800II? I'm not gonna use a JetSCU2000, but do you guys know of a company that can reprogram my computer with little issue?

You must have been going downhill with the wind to your back, because the cars are governed at 118 stock, no exceptions.

I'm not gonna flame you, its possible, it just wasn't the engine taking you to over 120, just some extra momentum from a hill or something.

some stock cars don't have a gov I had a g/f w/a 2000 camaro w/o a gov and I had I 95 that didn't either. Fastest I have had my car to is probably about 145-150mph I have the hypertech so I removed the gov. That is a guess because of the speedo stopping @ 125. The way I figured it out was I was doing just under 4500 RPM in 5th gear @ that point my clutch started letting go that is some scary **** @ that speed. The top speed that was done on the hypertech dyno w/a 2001 I believe was 137 mph w/cat back and cai I believe though.
