They don't know unless you get it scanned. I had this problem and it was a solenoid. Cost $30 to get a new one and all I had to do was drop the pan and replace it. Get it scanned though...that will tell you more than just what someone tells you they think it is.

The code is prolly P1870. That's the same one mine throws when it's shifting hard. I don't really know a cheap fix, so if somebody does, lemme know.

If you have a 99 you most likely suffer from wear in your TCC apply valve bore. Code P1870 is slippage. Prepare to open your wallet for either a Sonnax repair sleve for your valve body or an entire replacement. See your tranny shop, they will be familiar with your problem.

Yeah, the problem isn't limited to the 99 models, it's random for alot of GM vehicles with the 4L60E transmission. Either way, mine does it too every once in a while. I'm just gonna let it go. It's not worth the hassle of a 300 dollar fix when I can get a used one on ebay for about that. Maybe foolish, but I'm hoping for an LS1/T56 swap before that day comes.
