You never have to replace your LSD unless your transmission is constantly running at high temps or you have some freak accident. But bad fluid is the leading cause of trans problems. High trans temps cause your fluid life to decrease which in turn lessens its capicity to lubricate, seal, cool, and clean. So if the fluid is bad depending on how fierce you drive the life expentancy can be cut in half if not more. its supposed to last 100,000 miles and you have a pretty new car (2001 camaro) I dont see how your LSD could have gone bad so soon.

Why do you think you cant do doughnuts properly? What is actually happening when you try?

well, i usually can do donuts with ease now when i try, i go around in circle which kinda looks stupid when my friend video taped it....anyway..my friend says that he usually see a car do that when they dont have LSD or its worn down. he said i should replace it or something...anyone here watched Best Motoring: Drift Bible? ...anyway towards the end of the DVD they showed you how a car without LSD was doin donut and mine kinda looked like that...oh yeah and on the side note..our car sucks when it comes to drifting :D ....but still fun as hell ;)

LSD has nothing to do with the transmission. What are you trying to get at?

Another example of people on this not knowing a damn thing as to what theyre talking about, but still giving advice.

This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever read.

Excuse me for asking but what does High transmission temperature have to do with a Limited Slip Differential I didn't know that the rearend and the transmission shared fluid through some invisible link never heard of before. Please elaborate on your new concept of damage to the rearend due to an overheating transmission.

Cant give any advice if you say nothing about the car... what kind of LSD, is it stock, aftermarket, dont know? Is it a Torsen, Auburn? Did you even have LSD in the first place? Its definately not your tranny...

Thank you Hawgs! That had to be said, I am tired of seeing people post GROSSLY INACCURATE information. If you don't know just don't post.

I know, that is why sometimes searching isn't all it is cracked up to be.

Anyway, since I posted in this thread I guess I should offer my opinion on the initial post.

As far as I know the OEM Zexel-Torsen is supposed to last "the lifetime of the car." The Zexel-Torsen uses gears rather than clutches which is supposed to make it quite reliable.

When a LSD goes bad generally it just becomes just like an open-diffy so the car is still driveable. So if your LSD is bad (doubtful) it should act like an open-diffy.

Hopefully my info is accurate, that would be quite embarrassing to post what I did above and then present inaccurate info
