Does this sound like a good price? The only reason I am having it done is because I am also going to have a complete suspension package installed at the same time. The guy quoted me a total of $800 for complete rear end swap and full front and rear suspension package.

I would have cost me $350 for labor on a complete rearend swap with no suspension upgrades. If that's parts inclusive then you are doing awesome, if not then they are charging you about $250 to much it shouldn't be more than $200 labor to change shocks and springs all the way around.2000 Firebird. Yeah I have all the parts and just need the labor. They are saying that the front end will take the bulk of the time to put the suspension on becasue of the front shocks, springs, and sway bar. They have to take the whole front end off to put the springs and shocks on.New Toy Red 94 Formula LT1

So you have a whole rearend out of another car? if so, swap that and do the rear shocks/ springs yourself... really not that involved. take it to somebody else to change the fronts... hell, you can even pull the whole spring/shock unit out and then take that to somebody and have them compressed and changed and then re-install yourself. that sounds like WAY too much money to me for a relatively simple job. It might take you some time, but it cant be that hard.\'01 Mineral Grey SVT Cobra
-former F-body owner

Here is my delima and maybe you all can advise me of what I should do. I just can't think for myself right now:
The place will only ship the rear end from MI to a shop. I live in the the middle of nowhere in VA and dont have the means of tranpsorting a rear axle around. If I could borrow a truck, I don't have a shop or know of anyone with a shop that could let me do this. I would love to put the rear end in myself with suspension becasue I hear it's relatively easy. I just dont have the equipment or really the mechanical expertiese.
As you can see, I am kind of stuck.New Toy Red 94 Formula LT1

before you say 'OK' to that kind of a labor bill, post in the regional forum and see if there is anyone local (or relatively so) that could help you out... even if you offered them a few bucks for the trouble it sounds like it would save you a bunch of money. theres a lot of people on this board in the VA area.\'01 Mineral Grey SVT Cobra
-former F-body owner

Yeah, sounds kinda tough. They are ripping you on the installation aspect, but better off having someone who knows what they are doing instaed of not being 100% sure. The rear isn't really that hard. It's just unbolt-n-bolt back up, but having the right tools is a necessity! I borrowed my friends minivan to pick up the 95 T/A rear I bought. Fit perfectly.

This shop that quoted me this was referred to me by a guy on this board who says this shop does great work on all F-bodies.

I do appreciate everyon'e opinion, but I think what I am going to do is have the rear end shipped to a local shop here, pick it up, install in at a shop or a garage somewhere with the rear end suspension, and then have a shop install the front springs, shocks, and sway bar. Save some money and I get experience :)New Toy Red 94 Formula LT1

Damn....I would do it all for $200 if I lived near you. The install is fairly easy for the rear end swap and the front swaybar is also easy. The front springs and shocks aren't fun but aren't hard if you have a spring compressor.98 Bright Red Camaro
Too many mods to list....check my website

YOu can transport the rear end in your camaro.
I transported a full rear on a pallet in my girlfriends old 96 cavalier, drove ~20 miles to do it. See if they can drop it off at a truck freight depot. Thats how I did it on my car.
The rear axle and rear suspension is a joke. Only hard part is the actualy "physical" part. but you can be tricky with jacks and jack stands so you don't have to do much lifting yourself. If you have 1-2 friends to help you, its an easy swap.
Front suspension is a bit more complicated. Lots of people have done it themselves but I don't think its for everyone.
but the rear is simple.
