• dealer flashing PCM

I am upgrading my rear end to a 3.42 which is a Y87 package. I have a VIN number from a 98 firebird with Y87 package.
Will having the a dearship flash my PCM fix my shift points?

Okay I just called my local dealership and they said there is no need to flash the PCM because the computer will automatically shift the gears becasue of the RPM reading. They said they WILL NOT (not cant) but WILL NOT flash the PCM becasue there is no need to.

WTF!?!!? I want to call them back and prove them wrong but I need info to back it up. somebody help me with this.

depends. some will some wont. youd probably get a better answer by calling your dealership and asking then asking a message board full of people who might be well over 1000 miles from you.

Take it to a different dealership. You need it flashed to correct your speedometer. Not to help your shift points.

so shift points have no bearing on the changing of gears?

DAMN I HATE DEALERSHIPS!!!!
Well the new update is that it is in violation of the Federal Emiisions Law to change a PCM that is not set with that vehicles exact VIN number.

Does this sound like to anyone?
I guess I will have to break down and get a Wester's program for $400

Call a few more dealerships. Some will do it, and some wont. The ones that wont will gives you the excuses like that. Let me know if you do find one, I'm probably gonna do mine over the summer once cash starts flowing back in, and it'd be nice to know a Va place that does.

No dealerships here will flash my PCM. I'm probably going to end up with the JET SCU2000.

I had mine flashed at a dealership here in Michigan for 80 bucks. Way cheaper than a custom tune, but then again you will get more than speedo recal. with the custom tune

You got to talk to the right guys. not the usual anal uptight, im too good to work on your car unless you pay me $500 to turn a few bolts or wont I do it type of azzhole, them i always see at these local big shot dealerships. Its the service managers that are pricks too, they choose who works on your car, they choose how long and what its worth to them. Dealerships are a crock of sh*t, unless you know the people that work there well or you find some nice people, otherwise they are garbage.

Yeah I noticed.
I think I found one that said they would do it for $35. I better call again to make sure they know exactly what I want.
