  • Y87 gear ratio

well what is it? im thinking about getting 3.73's, reprogram speedo and maybe get rid of speed limiter, some people say that you will run out of gear at the end of the track, whats this mean?

anyone in northeast fla have there speed limiter removed, if so where???

    The Y87 gears are 3.42's...

I don't think you'd run out of gear with 3.73's, since there are plenty of people running 4.10's... But I'm no expert on the subject by any means...

What it means though is hitting the top of fourth gear in an auto, or fifth in a manual before you finish the 1/4.. So you've used up all your gears before the end and can't pick up any more speed... Ideally, you'd reach this point right at the end of the 1/4 for the best time..

    Hope that helps...

From what I hear you don't really run out of gears in the tranny, but the top speed limiter stops you from going any faster.

If you dont get the speedo reprogrammed for the new gears, your limiter will kick in at around 100 or something. You wouldnt need to worry about that unless you're running like 13's. Also, your shift points would be off if you have an A4. Speedo reprogrammers are around like $100 though (tech-edge from intense, I think) and they should be able to correct the speedo so the governor is back at 118. I think you either need a hypertech if available for your car, or custom programming to get rid of the speed limiter though.

I though the Y87 option had two different gear ratios, depending on your transmission. I though the gear ratio on the manual Y87 was 3.23 and automatic Y87 was 3.42. Correct me if I'm wrong.

All manuals have 3.23s, Y87 or not.
              Auto Y87s have 3.42s.
