Check this out...Maybe Dual Friction isn't the best clutch.
Those are pictures of what's left of my Dual Friction clutch. I had it installed for only a month. This was the first time I got the car to the strip. I got 11 passes on it before it quit my program. [img]graemlins/bs.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/twak.gif[/img]
2 months ago I got a Specs stage 2 I was seriously considering a duel friction though. I am glad I did not get it now. I hope all turns out good for ya though...
Honestly I was looking at dual frictions for my current car and older one and I have heard a few stories like yours, so I have been kind of weary of htem.
How many miles had you put on your DF before you took it to the track? And how were your fluids?
I've had my DF for over a year now and have had no problems at all. The thing has stood up to Beltway traffic, 10lbs of boost . . . and 12sec even took the car for spin with no problems.
I had about 400miles on it before I hit the track. I think 300 - 400 . . . maybe even 500? was recommended before you went full throttle.
Yes, 500 miles are recommended for the break in period. I had over 700 before I got to the track. And I tell you, those were the longest 700 miles of my life. And now to think that whatever way this works out, I have to do it again. [img]graemlins/bs.gif[/img]
And what fluids are you referring to? Engine was fine, I had just changed it on Friday. Trans was fine as was the rear end.

I thin he is talking about your clutch hydraulic fluid.
Ok, I forgot about that one. :rolleyes: There is no air in the line and the level was within specs and still is. The pedal still felt the same after the disc burnt up.
I heard the same about the dual friction clutches, they just don't hold up to abuse. I think we should remove them from the clutch modification section at the main homepage. We shouldn't try to sell something that doesn't work, besides out here in CA a clutch install runs around 500-700$. That really sucks.

I have to agree with that. If I had known what kind of problems that were experienced w/ the dual frictions, I would not have bought one. But of course, since I have had nothing short of a total meltdown, I here these stories coming out of the woodwork. The clutch w/ throwout bearing was $420.
I thought that the general consesus on this site was that the CF DF sucked azz. Like 4 or 5 people have the clutch and dont have problems, but everyone else has had problems with it.
Get them to rebuild it for you, using the flywheel side on both sides.
EDIT - Something is wrong with yours... Both sides looked the same. Mine had a side with little pads instead of one big pad (like the flywheel side). You managed to break both side... I dunno. Something seems fishy.
I don't like the charring on the pressure plate side... I think something was wrong with something other than the disk itself.
EDIT AGAIN - Yeah the fingers of the clutch plate are all chared too, you just plain overheated the whole thing. Not good. No necissary the clutchs fault.

What charring are you talking about on the pressure plate side? All I see is black dust that used to be the friction material. I know that the whole thing overheated. And the disc did have one side with little pads while the other side was one big pad. Just not anymore.
