Rear end problems....LOST!! HELP!

Ok...to start off I don't know much of anything about the rear end of my car. I have a 1998 v6 camaro with a 5 speed manual transmission. When I got the car it sounded fine. There was some gear whine but I was told this is normal. Now I have new sounds! :( :( When im driving say 55 and then take my foot off the gas, there is a fairly loud clunking noise coming from the rear of my car. I'm not sure if this is a problem or not, but it doesn't sound good at all. I mainly notice it when taking my foot off the gas to slow down. As soon as I take my foot off the accelerator the noise shows up. There is also what sounds like a scraping noise when slowing down as well. I hold the clutch in and coast and it sounds like something is scraping on the ground or something. It only makes this noise when the clutch is pushed in. Can anyone help me out?

or someone installed gears and didn't do it right and well there about to stop making you go

How loud is it?

IF you can get undewr the car in neutral (no load on the drive shaft) you can twist the drive shaft by hand and you should feel no play in the u joints.

Hey you may have a aftermarket locker, or a failing posi. The ring & Pinion fail really fast when they are not happy. I blew a set up on the freeway doing 75mph with my foot on the gas. The first thing I would do is change the differential fluid, and check to see if you see any metal flakes or other signs of damage. The cost of a gasket and 80w90 diff fluid is cheap compared to a rebuild.

When I got my new gears installed I drove away from the shop and heard the same kind of sound. Kind of like a metal clunking sound. The shop sais they forgot to add the limited slip differential fluid. After they added it, I have no more sound.
Now thats just what I was told.
