This has been talked about many times before. At one point Tom @ super six motor sports was going to custom fab some for our cars. I have checked with that site once in a while and it seems to have just faded away :(

If I remember correctly, it wasn't going to be that expencive of a mod either. To bad, I would really like to have a Alluminum Flyweel/Drivshaft combo.

I think Ironman is still in the beta process with SPEC on this. I hear alum's are nice -- they lead to a slightly different shifting style, but take some serious mass off of the flywheel.

only downside is that its $600.

but it makes the engine rev a lot faster. lot of inertia lost with the lighter weight.

oh wait, that may only be for the LT1. Normally LPE specifies if its LT1 only next to the product in the scroll window. they dont on the flywheel, but they mention that its the LT1 f-bodys in the ad.

Aluminium flywheel not a good idea on a six. yeah revs faster but with minimal torq to begin with the loss would have serious effects on 1/4 mile and 60' times.

an aluminum flywheel will help out!
the only problem is that from what I hear the engine is extremely well balanced including the fly wheel.

why would an aluminum flywheel hurt 1/4 times?????? i dont see how it would. does an aluminum driveshaft hurt 1/4 times?? nope.

the only time a lighter flywheel will "hurt" is going up a steep hill. if the engine is lacking power to push the car up the hill in that gear its revs will drop either way, they'll just drop with the lighter one quicker forcing you to downshift sooner. but the opposite is true on level surface or downhill. it can only help ETs.
