When looking for a posi w/3.73's for my car I had found from 2 sources with complete rears for $350.00 I am not sure if your friend will get the price for what he is asking for....
373's do not hurt drivability.
As for the 3.08's I do think you will get too many bites on it.

oh, i thought he was asking a good price, considering the gears I've seen 373s cost around 199 and posi is usually another 100. but he's including the entire rear, not just the gears. Lemme know guys

It is going to depend on how much searching someone does to get a deal....I had time to search out the best price for my rear end setup...I am sure others will probably say its a good deal though....

Sounds decent to me. I paid about $325 for a complete 3.73 kit for my BF's Z28 last Christmas. You could ask him if he'll take a little less and see what he says.
doesnt sound TOO rediculous to me. 550 would be real competative with other rear end assemblies....without a long search of course. I'd offer him 550. if he's a good friend he should let you have it for that price.

Consider shipping too. If he's your friend, you must live nearby, and you won't have to ship it.
That is a very good thing.
So hit your friend with a few extra dollars more than a competetively priced rear end.

You've got a '99, so your rearend is most likely fine. It's not like you dont have discs or anything so the only upgrade in there is the 3.73/LSD, correct?? Wouldnt it make more sense to just buy brand new 3.73s for $200, LSD for $100, and a gear install kit for like $50. That's a total of like $350 for a rear end rebuild. You're not really making enough power to need a 12-bolt, so unless you're having probs with your whole assembly I think it'd make more sense and be cheaper to just swap out gears. You can get them used for even cheaper too. I could understand if you wanted to get rid of your drums to go to discs, but with 98+ cars, that's not an issue anymore. And correct me someone if I'm wrong (I very well could be) but didnt 98+ cars also have basically the same exact rear end as the V8's once they started using 4-wheel disc brakes??
