  • Which aftermakret clutch do you guys reccomend? Also some places to get them.

I am leaning against Centerforce Dual frictions, on average I have heard more complaints then I have with Specs...

And with spec, what do you reccomend? Spec stage 3? Stage 2? I want one with as close a feel to stock as possible but be able to handle a hit of power. I have plans of 1.8 60's in the future, I don't want the clutch spinning on them.

But I also if possible want the ability to feather the clutch with ease, I want that over pure gripping power. If I had a choice between a clutch that held a billion ft. lbs. of torque but be a "full go, or full no go, no room for feathering" style clutch, I woudl rather buy a stock replacement, and just wear it out prematurely and get another stock replacement down the road.

So what do you guys reccomend and from where?

I would say something about this but I am sure you already know what that would be. No to centerforce but I have found that besides Spec, Ram makes them and they seemed very reasonable in price. I was quote $200 for the disc, pressure plate, and TOB which was suppose to be the equivalent to the dual friction. But no one has tried one yet.

Agreed, RAM makes a nice part that is similar in power handling to the SPEC stage 3, and isn't known to chatter as much. The complete set from RAM I can get you for about $325. The SPEC is a proven performer, and I can also get you one of those! Neither clutch will let you down.

I have had a SPEC III for about 5000 miles. I am just now able to feather it without massive chatter (violent vibration).

I like my SPEC III, but it is not friendly in city traffic. You should get a Ram and tell us how it is.

I have a Spec's stage 2 (purchased it from OneQuickV6 ). I like it. I can feather it as needed with no chatter. Holds great too...

The CF has been known to explode (in two cases, one being myself)

The centerforce is DEFINATELY strong enough for stock or cammed applications. I had a cam and a 100 shot on it, and thats when it blew up.

It won't blow up on your stock, weekend track usage car.

It if AWESOME for a daily driver. I would NEVER recommend a spec stage 3 or higher for a daily driven car. Why put yourself through that?

If you plan on using a lot of boost or nitrous, and racing it all the time, then use a spec stage 3 or up. My custom centerforce gives a little chatter, not much at all, but I can imagine how bad it would suck if it were worse.

The centerforce will handle anything you can throw at it NA (CamaroZach used on to run a 13 second pass) and never fail (there are freak incidents). Make sure you break it in though.
I think it is smoother engaging than stock, and VERY easy to drive. Pedal feel is awesome.

Once again, if you are hardcore race with a power adder, then go bigger, otherwise a spec 2 or centerforce DF will work more than adequately.

ERIC - you have had problems blowing up clutches before, so you might consider something strong, but if you are concerned with the drivability, get the CF DF. (You can ask for it to be built with the flywheel side on both side (makes it a lot stronger) without having much, if any, chatter. Mine engages smoothly still, just takes a little more feathering.

Well, I finally got the spec 3 in and I can say it is a night and day difference between the dual friction and the spec 3. The dual friction I would recommend for no one. I only had 700+ miles on it before it blow the first time I took the car to the track. I talked to one of their techs about it and he was saying that the pressure plate was defective. The clamping force was only around 70% of what it should have been. He wouldn't give me exact numbers. Anyways, I love the spec 3. City driving will take some getting used to but it doesn't slip. Every shift rocks the car. The dual friction never did that. Now I just have to wait for the rain to stop so I can grab that n/a 3.4 record.

I have Centerforce DF and its great I dont know why people put it down alot because two incidents when it faild, but I'm sure people that have will tell you its great, I put my through hell last week and its holds like nothing. I guess decision on this has to be personal pick because you got to drive it to make the right choice first. My .02 cents ;)
