• T-5 can't handle serious torque?

I have heard rumors for years that the our T-5 is prone to immediate failure if you apply a large torque load to it.

I have a healthy shot of n20, and I have a meaty camshaft in the works. This will create much torque.

If I put in a high perf clutch, and put slick out back, Will this lack of slippage cause the transmission to fail prematurely? Has anyone had trouble with this before?

I need to know before I drop $1000 in parts next month.

Your 10bolt will fail before the trans.

Nothing will fail if you run street tires only...

I want to put some drag radials out back. That is why I am concerned.

I already put in a zex torsen LSD. I figured between that and drag radials, the transmission would be the weakest link. And the most expensive.

Slip off the line and you'll be OK. I wouldn't demand the world from the T5, but a lotta folks are OK demanding a few continents.

the T-5 is a weak tranny but I am sure it can handle what our v6 can throw at it. also they are really simple to rebuild. I would still rather have the 5 speen over auto.

Mine can't take what I throw at it...

do you need the clutch yet? IF you are nto experiencing any slippage, then I say keep with stock replacement clutches. Performance clutches are either slip or grab, there is no fine point where you can feather it like a stock clutch.

It will be harder to feather a launch with a aftermarket clutch.

I prefer manual tranny over auto, but damn, sometimes I realy wish I had an auto. Sure a manual tranny is fun but then again with an auto you can usually use all the gears.

Last time I was at the track, I got a trap speed of 104.5mph. My stock clutch slipped and my tires spun a lot, so that awsome trap speed only netted me a 13.99.

THis winter, I wanna install a good clutch and some drag radials, so all that slippage will be eliminated. i wan't a 60' time under 2 seconds.

I need the tranny to take about 360ft lbs and still be ok with no slippage anywhere.

Wow, nice numbers! That is a killer trap speed, good enough for a low 13 if you can get your 60' times down. Great job!

I've heard the T-5 can handle about 400-450 before it blows. An engine that constantly puts out 400 lb/ft would be too much for it, but in your case, hitting 360 or so lb/ft at the track only (and not daily on the street) should be fine. That brings up another question, does anyone make a "performance" rebuild kit for the T-5? It's only one of the most popular and widely used manual trannys EVER. ;) Good luck with low 13's!

I seriously doubt that your tranny cant handle what you are throwing at it. you clutch cant handle it. I have seen powerfull mustangs not break the T5. I am sure someone makes performance rebuild kits for them. if anyone knows of any let me know, thanks.

I believe that's actually the World class T-5, but I could be wrong...

That www.gforcetransmissions.com is a good web page. It states that after the "beef up" you can throw as much as around 600hp and 14k RPM to the T-5. I don't think any of us will see that out of a 6 cyl.

It might be nice to find out if they can custom fab up adapters and different shafts etc so a big block can be used with out needed to get a different transmission. :D

Excellent. Those look like great kits and the price is decent too. And a straight-cut dog engagement version! Now that would be fun. Good find, thanks for the link.
