If you goto the junkyard I'm sure you could take off the cover and check to see if it has a LSD, and I don't think theres away to tell the ratio by just looking at the gears themselves though. Ask the junkyard if they still have the bodys and if they do check the PRO codes for 3.42s.Ben

1995 White/Black 3.4L
As far away from stock as possible
My Site!!!
RedLineV6
Rebuild and 3.4 T70 Turbo is complete
Details to come....

If they both have drums they are V6's and most likely not 3.42's and LSD unless the owner of the car changed the differential but not the whole rear axle. I am pretty sure that no Z28's/TA's came with drum brakes.
(I am assuming these are axles from Camaros/Firebirds and not just some random axle this guy has)1996 Polo Green Metallic Camaro:
SLP CAI, Carsound/Magnaflow 3\" in/out cat, Flowmaster 2.5\" cat-back... sounds great

You should be able tell what the ratio is and is it is limited slip without taking the cover off.
If you spin one side of the axle and the other side spins in the same direction then you have a limited slip. If the other side moves in the opposite direction or doesn't move at all then you have a peg leg pete.
For determining your ration do this: Put a mark on the yolk of the differential. Now put a mark on the drum somewhere. Now sping the drum and count how many times that the driveshaft spins for the drum to make one complete revolution. Should give you a pretty good idea of the ratio the rear end has.

GM made plenty of non Z28 or T/A F-bodys with V8s and drum brakes.

most junkyards have a warranty on their parts. MOST. Just be sure to say "Hey, if this breaks are you going to get me a replacement?"Mustangs.. Come to the darkside...

The dark side is the path to the shadow of greed. =D
