  • Wheel Bearing Problems

Beautiful, just beautiful guys. My drum brake problem has been upgraded to a wheel bearing problem. It sounded like my car was a train on rails for the longest time because I had this grinding sound coming out of my passenger rear wheel. I thought it was the drum brake, but it had new pads, i was going to replace the wheel cylinder but it's not even that. I put the drum back on it's self, to shift into neutral then took it back off before it started turning and the noise isn't coming from the brakes at all, it looks like it's grinding in the bearing. I don't want to get into the whole taking out the shaft bit out of the differential and pressing the bearing on and cra. What do you think im looking at here for labor costs? I know I can't be the only person this has happened to?

You're probably getting into at leat $200-$300 worth of work there. Honestly though, it's not a difficult job. The bearing doesn't get pressed into the axle, you can simply put a block on it and give the block a few whacks with a large hammer and it'll seat in there.

Hmm ok, I think i'll probably have to do it myself? Is the shaft really hard to get out? Like taking the lock off?

Nah...take the differential cover off, take the small bolt out of the pin in the center of the differential, remove the pin, remove the clip, remove axle.
