  • Turbo and 373s?

I have been offered a really great deal on lsd 3.73s. But I've heard people saying that their top speed is something like 96mph.

When I get my turbo in, I hope to be trapping somewhat higher than that. Will the gears restrict my top speed, even though my turbo can go faster?

Or will the top speed be different due to the turbo?
    Thx

Do you have an auto or manual?
I think in autos the top speed is over 110mph.

so after a computer reprogram, i should have zero probs? over 100 shouldn't be a prob?

Right now with my 308s, I'm at 1900 rpms at 70. I'm sure with the 373s I will be in the mid 2000s. Now, will the power from the turbo effect that? Meaning, with a correct speedo, that I'll be at oh.. 2200 rpms or something.

        thx

so can I have an answer??

with 373s, turbo setup, and reprogrammed computer, I'll be able to go over 100?

or will the gears still slow me up?

            Please let me know

a lot of extended high speed driving w/ 3.73's is harsher on your engine, causwe your rpms will be higher. I'm struggling with this myself... my rear end NEEDS to be rebuilt and im ordering my gears tomarrow. only question is 3.42's or 3.73's. if i was going N/A i would prolly use 3.73's but SOMEDAY i would like to S/C so i think im gonna get 3.42's.

Yes. The only reason you're stuck under/about 100 without the reprogram is because the computer "thinks" your going faster, so it kicks in the speed limiter. Reprogramming the computer for the gears will make it read the correct speed.

get it reprogrammed and have the speed limiter removed, then you can really hit some high top speeds especially when the blower gets tossed on.

I have a hypertec III and removed the speed limiter, and have W rated tires and 3.73 and I have been over a 100 many times. I have been over my old speed limiter setting of 118(I believe)A few times, and over 125 once (buried the needle), dont think I will do that again. Gets scary, and I am a wussy.

                      Govenor is at 115.

Part of changing gears...and doing it CORRECTLY includes editing your car to be recalibrated to read out accurately.

Recalibration will allow you to go up to 115 where you will hit the govenor. Remove the govenor, and you should be able to hit 130MPH if your engine is stock. Up around 145MPH if you have some decent power with 3.73's.

If any of you can't break 100 MPH you did something wrong!

gears should depend on how big of tires u plan on getting. u could get 3.73's or even 4.10's and run 335-35-18's and be fine w/ highway rpm's and gas mileage.

I have 3.73's with my supercharger, and they are fine. It is just a myth about losing gas mileage... I gained 2-3 mpg with 3.73's n/a, and they've only helped w/ the blower.

Also, I only gained a couple hundred rpm's on the highway... I wish I got 4.11's instead, because 3.73's aren't a huge difference over my old 3.23's.

Its a rev limiter and the cut off in an auto is 118.
