http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...ginespeed.html to calculate the speeds.

http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/.../tirecalc.html if you need tire sizes.

I hit roughly 95 in 3rd in the formula...i shut it down at 5800 so i probably could have it 100 if I pulled it up to the rev limiter. I also have a 3.42 rear.

Says my car can do 116mph at the top of 3rd, like I thought.
Well, 100rpm higher than it usually shifts...
So 110 at least

Yeah, but with 3:73's or even 4:11's??? Man, that engine will be a'screeeemin obscenities at you, and possibly get pissed enough to give you an ses.

With 3.73s
I run it past 115 in 3rd right now with the 2.23s

Jeez, with 2:23's you can probably take the engine to it's limit's in 3rd. Especially with an auto.

well i've got 3.23's in my M5 right now...what i'm asking is, if i put in 3.73's or 4.10's, will i still be in 3rd gear when i hit 100 mph??

hmm ok, i guess i answered my own question, thanks for providing those sites, guys!

assuming this one is accurate, http://www.f-body.org/gears/ in third gear, with 3.73 @ 6000 rpm, the top speed is 87 MPH, with 4.10 @ 6000 rpm the top speed is 79 MPH. btw, i was using these gear ratios for the calculation:

1st--3.75
2nd--2.19
3rd--1.34
4th--1
5th--0.72
with a tire diameter of 25.66"

so no matter which gears i go with 3.73 or 4.10, i'm gonna have to shift into 4th in the 1/4, regardless.

Yeah, but it's a major reason shorter gears are quicker in the 1/4. You're driving with a four speed transmission instead of a three speed, and can keep the engine closer to its best rpm.

yeah but generally less times you have to shift the better. shifting takes time. if it takes you half a second to shift (for example) you lose 1 second to shifting during a run if you have to shift 2 times. its 1.5 seconds if you have to shift 3 times. not only that, but your car decelerates a little while you shift. so this is especially true if you have to shift right at the end of the run. you might as well keep the car going on boil in 3rd gear at 89 or whatever because by the time you shift you're past the 1/4 mark.
