• What is all on TOP of our Trannys? (M5)

Ok guys. My M5 Tranny is leaking fluid. Its coming from the top somewhere as the whole side is covered. Its not a HUGE leak, but enough to leave a few drops on the garage floor every night.

What is all up there? I'd say its somewhere between the shfiter and the front of the tranny. (I know that means most of it... I'm just trying to describe)

I was trying to look with a small mechanic's mirror, and I think I see some sort of small black tube and a fitting up there. What does this go to? Could it be that it is clogged or broken?

If anyone has a detailed picture or photo it'd be great. I tried to get the Serivce manual when it was up on here, but I only got parts 1 and 5, so I'm SOL there. My chilton's manual doesn't have a detailed picture :(

      Oh Wow! Thanks Man!

I didn't realize there is a plate that bolts on the top there also

I'm gonna go try to get that tube off and see whats up. You know, I noticed drips farther up also, that I thought were tranny fluid, but I figured must be oil from my Rear main leak. I wonder, seeing how far that tube goes up, if its not tranny fluid after all.

Well, back to the garage then, I'll let ya know what I find!

Nope, its red, Its Tranny fluid for sure.

          But thanks!

As for that hose, I checked it, seems fine, no leaks with that.

I'd have to say that its the access plate on the top of the tranny. So... Yeah I'll check it out when I drop it this winter.

make sure you keep the tranny topped up with fluid...i'd check it once before winter, anyway. few drops here & there add up.

yeah, I've been checking it. Its still pretty damn close to the hole. I stick my finger in and I get fluid on it without bending it at all. *Shrugs* I dunno where its coming from.

No big deal, only a few more weeks and its going in storage for the winter. Then I'll have a chance to drop the tranny and have a look.
