Threw in the 1LE driveshaft yesterday. Install was quick and easy, the hardest part was figuring out how to keep the driveshaft from turning when I was getting at the bolts. I put new u-joints in the driveshaft on monday, and it took me almost three hours!! The Haynes manual might say that you can press out the stock U-joints with injected nylon and break them free, but it's wrong! I had the transmission yolk end under a 20 ton press and they wouldnt budge. A torch applied on the U-joint caps makes the nylon squirt out like a snake. After they cooled down, I used a VW ball-joint tool (basically a really big C-clamp with an open end and an attachment on the top for a 1/2" ratchet) to press them out. Most of the time was spent allowing the joints to cool after the torch treatment. Hopefully I wont need to do that again anytime soon.
After the install, the car goes through the gears quicker and a noise that I had coming from the rear end has gone away. I give this mod a especially since I bought the driveshaft for $120.
