  • Help with a code....P0751

This is on a newer (i think 97) S-10 Xtreme.

P-0751 - Shift solenoid A CKT Performance or Stuck Off.

    Another source said:

P0751 - 1-2 Shift soloenoid valve performance - no first or 4th gear.

    WTF?!

    TIA
    Adam

It is probably residue build up, bad solenoid, or bad electrical connection.

In this picture you can see the 1-2 shift solenoid. It is the black thing under the middle yellow electrical connector. There is just a little clip that holds it in that you can pry out with a screw driver. The solenoid will pull right out. There is a mesh filter thing on the end of it, make sure it is not clogged. If it is, you can try cleaning it, or replace it.

My rebuild manual says "Solenoid resistenace should measure 20-40 ohms minimum at 68*F. Current flow should not exceed .75 amps. The solenoid should energize at a voltage of 7.5 volts or more."

It also could be the tranny wiring harness. It is submerged in the hot transmission fluid 24/7, and it can be damaged by the heat.

Or the 1-2 valves may be stuck, or the valve spring worn or damaged.

I rebuilt my transmission, and when I put it back in I was getting that code. Turns out I had put the 1-2 valve in wrong. I didn't want to get back under the car, so I had a tranny shop fix it for me. They charged me 325 to rebuild the valve body. If you take it to a shop you are looking at about that much. You can drop the pan, and pull the solenoid out and put a new one in yourself, not much harder than changing the tranny filter. Maybe that is all that is wrong.
