So having looked at various installation guides, it seems that the Zexel install should be similar to a "drop-in". My question is this: Is there any spacing concerns (left side closer than right, etc) or shims(?) that I need to worry about? Going to be doing this w/ 1 extra set of hands, but don't want to bother if it's going to be a super crazy job. Thanks.

Mine went in fine, I watched GM do it for me (an actual trusted dealer) for $125 with a lifetime guarantee on the work . Worth every penny too if I ever have a problem back there - which I won't. It took them about 1.5hrs on a lift, it would've taken me 4 hours doing it by myself on jackstands due to the cumbersome position. It slipped in perfectly however, but my whole rear was brand new at the time!2002 5-spd NBM Camaro

Dominic,
You went to a dealer to have it done afterwards? No kidding. I'm paranoid about going to my Chevy dealer, cuz the guy is kind of a prick. I'm afraid he'll void my warranty in his computer and I'll have to fight tooth & nail to get in reinstated. (Does this happen? I've read horror stories.) I could go to the Pontiac dealer up the street though. And the guarantee? How did you manage that? Thanks in advance.
