Find another shop. Like most places nowadays, they're full of it.
Check all the usual places for prices: TByrne, Thunder, TSP, FTPP, Summit, etc.Matt

Yeah, they are trying to see you one of THEIR clutches. Find another shop!
Also, it is highly recommended that you at least get your flywheel resurfaces when replacing a clutch. Alot of auto shops can do this for you for about $25 if you carry it in.sigpic

Or you can attempt the same thing I will be trying in 3 or 4 months once I save enough cash(damn it sucks being broke in college). Drop the tranny and do the install yourself. As hard as it sounds, it doesnt look to be too bad of an operation assuming you have access to a lift or some other way to jack the car up high enough. I haven't done this before so I am making an assumption, but it will be an interesting learning experience.\'02 Camaro M5
SLP CAI, Whisper Lid, 180 thermo, and still more to come

True 98, I've been up all night studying so my mind wasn't exactly all there when I wrote that. What I forgot to include was to only do that if he has a friend who has done it before. Thats how I am going to do it, so I'm not doing 100% of the work really.\'02 Camaro M5
SLP CAI, Whisper Lid, 180 thermo, and still more to come

Its not "easy" to do a clutch. But doable.
As for it, they went over the basics...
resurface flywheel
any clutch will work
if you want a stock feel despite what people say a spec II will still chatter.
I woudl go with a spec 1, or maybe a centerforce I hear they are pretty streetable.
Anotehr issue is the clutch itself won't break your transmission, but if you end up putting high hp through it, it is very very likely you will kill it. Just my opinion.-Eric
2000 NBM V6 Camaro 5-speed T-top converted
14.467@95.45mph $0 in mods
The member formerly known as MustangEater8251

I replaced my clutch in my driveway, no lift, just 4 jack stands, had to pull trany out twice since i had to add a shim. Not something everyone should try. But yeah, definetly re-surface your flywheel, $25 is what i paid at a professional shop, local Auto Zone recommended me to them.
Before i put tranny back in i painted it silver, looked badass/brand new, 1998 Rally Red Camaro
