  • pro 5.0 shifter question

I just received my pro 5.0 shifter from LMPerformance and it says "for T-56 transmission" which is the 6-speed. I double checked my LMPerformance order and I did indeed order the shifter for the 5 speed. I thought the markings on the box would be reliable but the enclosed instructions address "Mustang owner". The real problem is that the shifter has no part number on it or anything for me to verify. How would I be able to tell if this thing will fit or not without actually test fitting it?

like most aftermrket parts distributers, they will sell parts that fit multiple cars. im sure this shifter was originally marketed for the mustangs, hence 5.0.

you could call their tech line or contact number and ask them for sure.

If the shifter itself says T-56 then they sent you the wrong one. Don't use it -- send it back.

When you have the right one, post back and I can probably help a little with the install.

installuniversity.com does a good writeup on taking apart the center console to get at the shifter.

I'm confident about doing the install but cannot see my stock shifter unless I go to the effort of tearing apart the center console. I can do it, but it would be a hassle to get it all torn down and figure out I can't use it.
I figure if the box says T56 they mean T56 but like I said the shifter doesn't have distinct markings to identify it. I've kept it in the box and will send it back. Thanks for the replies.

          Is it a P3050 or a P3000?

That's the problem- there are no markings on the shifter assembly except pro50.com and pro 5.0 Power Tower. The only thing I have to go by are the markings on the box. I have a phone number of the guy who shipped it to me so I will give him a call and find out.

The one I ordered from thunderracing didn't have any T56 markings on it or the box. I remember something about it having "T-5" or the years of the T5 5-speed shifter engraved on the shifter itself, though.

Well, I just got off the phone with pro 5.0 and they confirmed that I indeed do have the wrong one based on the box alone. So I am sending it back. Thank you all for the help!

the shifter plate of a t56 is shaped like a rectangle while the t5 one is more of a square.

I've pulled apart the center console numerous times so I know it's an easy job. It's just that the next day that I will have with daylight and free time is not going to be until Wednesday and I wanted to send the shifter back before then to get it taken care of ASAP. Thanks for the help, guys.
