What is direct drive? I'm sure it means: no torque converter / no stall. What are the advantages/disadvantages?
I think it would free up some HP/TQ.
My cousin has direct drive on his 2 speed tranny (SBC 383) IMCA modified. Its a beast.
2k2 camaro, K&N, SLP whisper lid, Konis, AEM, HP Tuners, Angel eyes/Halos, CF SS ram air hood, 4.10s, Zexel Torsen, UMI SFCs, CrossFire, BFGs, Gatorback, Catco, Flows, and TLC! DONT feed the Trolls!
direct drive is when the engine is directly connected to the wheels. that means if you stop, your engine stalls.
a manual tranny is ONLY direct drive if it is in gear.
They put real direct drive trannys on sprint cars, which is why when they stop, they need to be push started again(they have torque converters, but they are totally locked up)

a manual tranny isnt direct drive in gear. its direct drive in its 1:1 gear ingaged ;)

no, your thinking of overdrive. </font>[/QUOTE]No, he's not thinking of overdrive. He's thinking about the other use of the phrase "direct drive" that I mentioned in my first post. In that use, 1 rev goes in and 1 rev goes out....as in a 1:1 gear ratio.

Direct drive is when the engine is directly connected to the wheels.

That is wrong.
Being totally correct, using both terms correctly, what BLLDOGG originally said is right.
Depending on how you use the phrase, you could mean either a manual transmission or a 1:1 gear ratio. To be fully direct drive, it would be a manual with a 1:1 ratio, like he said.
