  • Busted transmission mount??

I've been having problems with my firebird with a A4 transmission. The last few months the acceleration is very slow (rpms are up but the mph are slow). its not a missfire, clogged cat, water/fuel pump, fuel filter, air filter, wires. I had everything checked. Another thing is the car jerks a lot harder now as well. drives rough. I heard somebody on another form stating they had a broken transmission mount and I got to thinking... could these be the root to my problems? bad hesitation. driving rough/jerking gears, major loss of acceleration power? I've had my car to a dealer and they kept it over night to come with the answer "its fine". I dont' know what to believe anymore lol. help me out guys... you think its possible?

Just check it out... won't make you slow, but will give you hesitation off the line.

nahh..if you broke the tranny mount the tranny then just hangs on the crossmember..so you get some thumping when you go over big bumps or launch fast..which would be your tranny thumping and the crossmember and bottom of your car..sounds like something else..im not sure what though..

Might have to drill out the cross member hole a bit, but thats it. Same as any other tranny...

savage. The only way to tell if your transmission mount is broke is if you go underneath the car and you can lift the transmission upwards towards the inner well. If it lifts without a problem and you see that rubber fitting move.. its broke. But the car will jerk or you will hear a clunk noise when you hammer the car. Otherwise it sounds like your ha ving something to do with the fuel or spark cause those are really the only two things that deal with it. I broke my tranny mount.. its a really loud bang when you hammer it off the line. or clunkish noise

YOu can definitely put a poly on a 5-speed. I have one on my '00. Jsut had to extend the crossmember from what I understand you have to do it with all v6 4th gens.

If you guys ahve 5-speeds, its easy to see if you have a broken mount, just put it in 1st, then get on the gas, let off then get on it, the shifter will bounce up and down, a good inch or so if the mount is busted.

                          an inch or so?

when you break a tranny mount it can easily go up to 4 or 5 inches of movement.

i threw mine out while squealing threw second gear and the shifter damn near knocked me in the chin.

if you had a broken tranny mount you would know it... everytime you came off the line it would jump up and down, even if I drive it really easy it still wobbles quite a bit.

not just into first either, into any gear where the synchros have to do any kind of work.

also... i have a 92 v6 with a 5 speed and NO ONE makes the mounts anymore...

                            NO ONE.

Except GM. And they want 140 bucks (with a discount from my buddy that works there even, they quoted me 160 over the phone.)

anybody got an old 90 to 92 5 speed mount lying around? lol
