  • Trans Go install

I'm gonna be installing the shift kit this weekend any words of wisdom for me to make this go as smoothly as possible. It looks like it will take 4-6 hours from what i read in the install and saw in the vid but i'm sure ill run in to some problems after i get into it.

The Trans-Go kit will not take only a few minutes, you gotta take off the transmission pan and remove and modify the valve body. The B&M kit is the one that takes only a few minutes and I also would recomend against the B&M.

i have heard it takes two pairs of hands to work with the (valve body) i think. very tricky. easy to get the pieces in backwords as well. a digital camera might be a good idea.

when i do mine (trans go) i will not be increasing the line pressure. this means not modifying the plate. reason being is that increasing the line pressure is what reduces the service life of the tranny. making the tranny shift faster is what increases the service life of the tranny. when you start modifying the (increasing) the fluid pressure seems to be the biggest concern for tranny builders. eveidently the 4l60e is not as stout as something like the 727 torqueflite.

I do plan on swapping in a corvete servo...there was something else as well...in my notes...

post up on your progress and let us know how it goes.

I got my info on 'pressure' from other 'v8' forums as well as first hand discusions with a few different tranny shops.

          oh yea...
there are basicaly two kits available for the 4l60e. once is about $40 and the other is about $109. do you have any idea what comes with what kit?

i am sure the more expensive one has the video and maybe a pan gasket. The cheaper i am sure does not have a video and also might be lacking a pan gasket.

the $40 is SK4l60e-2 and the more expensive one is TG4l60e. (pretty sure those are the part numbers)

I've already got the nice $100 trans go kit and the corvette servo so since i have already got that i dont want to spend the money on another one. I too will not be increasing the line pressure. As for a second set of hands i have a girl coming over to help (girls are nice, they have small hands). She owes me from when i changed her fuel pump with her (we did not cut the access panel... God that was a pita). I'l take a look over at the V8 forums to see if i can find any extra info that will help.

just keep us updated please. i plan on doing it in a few months and though it is 'easy' and comes with a video it still scares me. I have read some bad stories about taking 4 days or not working at all when they were 'done' with installing the kit.

i have seen still pics of the 4L60e with the pan off and i can't tell what the heck i am looking at. didn't seem to be anything in there to move, remove or replace or shim... ok, i admit it, i am intimidated.

yeah i hear you! im a litte nervous too. My dad thinks its a stupid idea to mess with my trans. The B&M kit i got doesnt come with a video but it does come with the pan gasket. Im going to be doing mine at work so ill have a lift and all my tools. Hopefully that would make my life easier. My friend from work is going to help me out hes done them many times before so ill see what happens.

God i would kill for a lift, you lucky bastard. I'm gonna try to get my digicam so i can document everything and then put up a detailed install guide since the internet seems to be without a good guide for this. As for the stuff you replace and not being able to see anything that moves... no you cant see anything because you gotta remove the valve body before you can actually get to see anything its all kinda shoved in there out of sight.

well a friend of mine installed my shift kit on saturday. . . To be 100% honest i think my trans shifted faster stock. I dont know if its screwed up or not but when the trans is shifting from 2nd to 3rd the rpms seem to top out. It scared the crap out of me cause i thought i was going to redline it. But It seems to be shifting fine besides that issue. . But it seemed to shift like crap for the first maybe 40 miles of driving with it.
Hmm anyone else know whats going on?

                              **update**
I let my dad test drive my car a couple minutes ago and he said the trans feels fine. It shifts normal under normal circumstances but shifts a bit harder and rides out 2nd gear longer when under harder acceleration.

                              T-punk hows yours coming along?
