i was wondering what diffy i have i have a 98 3800 and the code for 3.08 gears and thats the only code i have with a g starting
if i was a pirate noone would have a car

GU4 is the code for 3.08s. If you have that code, you've got a 2 series open diff.

well i did do that just now and both of my tires left black marks does this mean my diffy isnt open or do opens do that because he has a 96 firebird and only his left tire spins when he peels out

If the conditions are right, both tires can spin with an open diffy. But if you've got 3.08s, you've got an open diff. I can't possibly imagine someone would pay the money to upgrade to a Series 2 LSD and not upgrade the gears.

It's a traction thing. If one tire is spinning the other one will try to kick in to help you get traction.

If its an open diff and one tire is spinning, the other tire is going to nothing except go along for the ride. The non spinning tire will have ZERO pull.

You trying to tell me I have an LSD? I don't. It's the stock "open" diffy with 3.08's. Wanna see a vid of both my tires whitesmoking?

That's simply not how an open diff works. An open diff will not always spin both tires. It can, but not usually. If you're always burning both wheels, you've got an LSD.

                      Like I said earlier:

Yeah I know. I was just saying the same thing to art. If I punch it from a stop and take off then one tire will spin, but if I powerbrake after a sec both tires are spinning till I let off.

An open diff gives power to the wheel that is spinning fastest/has less restiance/less traction. My open diff has only spun both once. But it has "juggled" between the two.
