  • 'rebuild' our stock converter to 3000 stall w/lockup?

Living in Canada, it's expensive for me to order from places like TByrne...so i've been researching Torque Converters locally, and I found a guy that will essentially rebuild my stock converter to a 3000(new clutch etc), and will retain lockup.

He says he's heard of the Vigilante by PI and has heard mixed reviews, and recommends sticking with the stock GM one.

How does this sound to you guys?

He'll charge me $700 canadian...compared to the $1200 it would cost to buy the PI model, ship it here and install it, so the price is definitely right.

I'm just wondering about durability issues.

Sounds like the price is right. But I'd be very cautious of someone making claims like these. If it were so simple and reliable, you'd probably hear of it being done more often. Anything that sounds too good to be true, usually is. And I don't take those chances with my baby.

it could definately be done...just cut open the stock converter and change the fin angles...if the guy knows what he is doing it could work very good, if not then the car may run slower...a bad torque converter can make the car run crappy..
