• Possible to bolt a M6 from a 95 z-28 into my 95 V6?

Friend wrecked his z and has a good 6spd in it, thought about putting it in my v6 if its possible, I am not really much of a tranny guy, so I don't really know, and don't want to take the time to pull it unless I can. Would I need anything extra special to complete it if it can be done. I'm sure a new rear end gear would also be done at the same time. But wouldn't it be cool a v6 with a 6spd, that would throw some people off but good.

Just out of curiosity I ran a search on all the technical forums and it came back with 2 results, this thread and one other concerning some kind of HID conversion.

SLP used to make a conversion kit to mate the T56 up to the TPI motors but they discontinued it, probably due to lack of interest.

Even if you found someone to make it fit the only thing you'd gain from it is having a slightly lower 1st and 2nd gear, and having that super tall 6th gear. The lower gearing you can accomplish by changing your rear ratio, and at 1300 rpm a V6 might have a bit of a power problem trying to use 6th gear on the highway. Might actually be usable if you had 4.10's or 4.56's in the rear, that would get the rpm's up to almost 2000, but the money you'd save in highway mpg probably wouldn't offset the cost of the conversion.

Ya the rear gear would be something for certain. I'll take a look around and see what I can find. I want to do it just because it would be very unique.

Well I looked and looked and looked, I got no idea, I can't find anything. This should be possible, but I can't find a kit parts or any info.

Thanks I read up on those, and sent a few messages, hopefully I'll be able to figure out how to do this. I think it would be just cool.

Its cool but usually in the end its not worth it.

I mean if you cn get t56 for free might be worth it.

only problems you will hve is custom input shaft and an adapter plate. There is no kit anywhere anything made will be custom. Nothing for 305s, 350s, 4.3s or whatever will work.

Average cost of a used t56 is like $800-1000 and still might need to be rebuilt, used t56s re pricey.

Say you spend $800-1000 on the tranny, then like $500 for machinest and tranny shop to build you custom adapter plate and a custom input shaft.

I think fully built T5 is like $1200-1500. And its guranteed to work.

I mean you can keep trying but I say forget about it until you run into situation where you need an upgraded transmission. And you will need at least mid 14s to require that. So I wouldn't worry about it just yet.

mids 14's like I'm already there.... I don't think I'll need a new tranny any time soon... I am shooting for mid 12's this spring, and I only plan on a rebuild and shift kit and including a new valve.

I actually have no air intake on it current, plain air, the trans is brand new and not a refurb., my seat belts are out of it, and back part of the interior is sitting in my garage, i have no power steering currently, i am running rich as hell, i cut out my cat and broke the ceramic plates out of it.

I don't have timed mid 14's, but I am guessing thats about where i'm sitting being i blow every v6 around here i pull up next too right out of the water. Also I have a habbit of pumping 110 racing fuel, even though its $4.00 a gallon, < didn't think about it that could be part of my rich running issue...

To put it nicely, you're probably not running mid-14's
