  • Used rear end

Hi, I have 3:08's, this may be alot like v8's question, but here goes. Let's say I go to a salvage yard saturday, find a z-28 or a ta, and want the diff out of it. What do I look for on the housing to get the right one? These are posi units right? Is the gear ratio stamped on there? How hard is this to take out? Or will they do it for me? What should I look for? I want a better ratio, for the street say, 3:43 or whatever. Then the shift point and speedo probs :( I have a 1999 bird.

You cna do a couple things.. you can take the diff out of a v8 rear and put it in your car, but its not a cinch, little technical and a little brute force needed if you have help.

and if you want to change your gears, I'd really only have someone that knows what they are doing do it...

OR, you can just swap an entier rear complete with brakes off of a v8 car. Alot had 3.42s, lsd, so you would get better gears and lsd, and all you have to do is swap the complete rear end into your car. That is alot easier then opening up and swapping out the internals of the rear.

Complete rears for 98+ cars seem to go for $150-400. Look around FL message boards for one local so you don't have to pay shipping. Or even check out www.tacreationsusa.com in miami, only like maybe a 1 hour drive for you. If you have a friend with a truck, you could pick it up.
