  • Think I found my rear end noise

I have been getting a loud 'ticking/knocking' noise (thats the best way to describe it)ever since I bought my car 1 year ago.

Today, I swapped wheels/tires and think I have found the noise, however would like to know the origin.

Drivers side rear wheel came off and the drum/axle (i havent coverted to disc yet...see below), will rotate up to 10 degrees without effort. When it stops at either end of the play, it makes the sound I am hearing inside the car). The passenger side does nothing like this.

I have an open diff. Is the diff gone? Or this this a bearing or bent axle, or something I am not thinking of.

I am replacing the rear this spring/summer, however I am very curious what the issue is.

    thanks for any input.
