  • What is needed to swap in a trans am/z28 rear end

Ive got a 3 series carrier right now, 3.23 gears, and drum brakes. There is a 96 z28 rear end available with 3.42s/posi/disc brakes. What will i need to bolt this up? straight up fit? How long/intensive would the swap be too?

I did it by myself in about 4-5 hours. If you had help, it would probably take less than 3.
It's a straight bolt-on. The only thing I replaced were the rotors and brake pads.

If you do a search I did a mini write up on how to swap the rear...

Its pretty easy. As long as its a 3 channel non-TCS rear.

It is a straight swap and is pretty simple. As long as you keep track of what bolt goes where you wont have any problems whatsoever. Good luck, its a huge upgrade.

A tip as you pull bolts, just put them back in their spot...

example: pull the LCA nut and bolt pull the rear then put the lca nut and bolt back on the lca.

Keep in mind you need to know if your car has traction control and if the rear end you are getting has traction control. Don't want to mix and match on that one.

Other then that, a rear end swap is a cakewalk. Just spend some time under the car memorizing where things are and getting familiar with what it looks like and what it should look like.

I don't know for sure but I believe v6 traction control is still a 3 channel rear end.

That v6 traction control is different then v8 traction control. Again, I don't know for sure but I believe I hae seen it.
