I'm going out on a limb here with a thought that it never sounded this way before recently???

It could be bad bearings. Only real way to tell, pull the darn thing apart.

Sorry I can't be more help than that :(

It was a very faint sound, then I leave for college, and come back 3 weeks later, and it was very loud. also the pinion seal is leaking, but the diff is close to full. Another thing, when I got back the first thing I noticed was that it started like crap and made a grinding clicking noise from under the hood, as I turned the key to the on position, instead of the nice hum it usualy has. I think its the fuel pressure regulator.

Does it sound like gears grinding in your rear end? If so it happed to me also.

Blew out 2 pinion bearings and it sounded HORRIBLE, faster i went, louder it got. Had all bearing in the rear end replaced. Ran me $500, i wish i just bought a used rear end instead, but oh well.

So its a possibility that is your problem. Ask a mechanic to take it for a ride, he'll give you a better answer then any of us would because we cant actually hear the sound.

          Good luck

honestly I think you should replace your driveshaft, same with the guy killing rear ends and trannies, there is a bearing in the middle, that can go out of balance, happeend on my car and killed my pinion seal, and not to long later the rear end went out.

Score! covered under warranty. When the pinion seal was replaced the differential was put back together poorly and slowly ate its self. No charge to me.
