• 3.4l to 3.8l swap

I am doing a 3.4l to a 3.8l swap and I was wondering (after searching) will the same transmission from my 3.4l work on the 3.8l?

When I searched I found a couple that said the bellhousings might be different but they didnt give a definite answer.

Also the engine im getting will come with the computer, wiring harness, some accessories(?), engine mounts. Is there anything else I will need? Any forseen problems? I would go for the v8 swap but I figure why not give the v6 record a run for it and I dont want to do it in the 3.4l.

I think the bell housing is different. If you are going to modify a tranny, modify a 6 spd There is an adapter plate to mount it to the 3.8

To much trouble in swapping a auto to a 5sp specially a 6 spd. "I think the bell housing is different." Thats the answer i found when searching, any people certain its different?

Also the engine im getting is a 96 3.8l is there any tuning software for this year? I read that some people have switched to a 97 pcm because of tuning problems. Will the switch to the 97 be easy if i have to do it?

They have the same bellhousing bolt pattern but I think the starters are on different sides. DHP has the powertuner for 96 but are not available yet. HP tuners requires you to swap to a 97 pcm. Changing to a 97 pcm requires no addition work, it has the same wiring pinout as 96s. I am running a 97 pcm on my 96 drivetrain and use HP tuners.
