Probably higher than you will ever have to worry about with a 3.8. I would worry more about what your clutch can handle versus the tranny.

Hmm... I am not 100% sure seeing as I have an A4 3.4... so hopefully someone will back this up better... BUT this topic came up before and from what I can remember... it's somewhere around 270 at the motor. I am pretty sure that the torque limit is a little over 300ft lbs.
Ricecooker installed the supersix GM 3800 powerpack and he's pushing around 270 I think (with the tuning and whatnot) and has over 300ft lbs of torque- his clutch was slipping so right around that area is when you'll need a stronger transmission. Just something to think about- an LT1 makes 275-285 horsepower (depending on the year) and they have the T56 six speed transmission.

Im running a 75 shot of juice with the other mods in my sig so I would assume I am well over the 275 HP. My 75 shot of juice is rear wheel horse power rated too. So Im maybee 290 hp? I really dont know any numbers I would assume that I am around that 270hp range though. I have had no problems. I am on a stock clutch, trans, rear end, even stock 2 piece driveshaft.

Ya I need to get a new clutch soon. The reason that I am asking is I plan on buying the GM 3800 power pak and adding a 4-6 lb S/C and seeing what kinda power I can get :D

its not the hp you need to worry about but the torque. the old BW T5s were rated at alittle above 300 ftlbs I heard but now they are being made by tremmec and they are only rated at 250 ftlbs there are hundreds of us pushing more then that.

Im wondering how long mine is gonna last, according to dd2k Im making about 440 ftlbs of tq at 3k when I hit the juice LOL!

man those are some nice torque numbers. Does anyone know if their is a kit to beef up the tranny? will a 6sp bolt up to the 3800?

6spd wont bolt up, I don~t know if there is a kit to beef it up either.

Not directly but there might be options! Here's one...

                  http://www.spohn.net/index.cfm?fusea...t&productid=57

Pay close attention to this one detail on this page...
quote:
Also includes a special adapter plate that bolts the transmission to the stock T-5 bellhousing.

However, it does state that this kit is for the 1982-1992 F-Body. If someone could investigate the bellhousings on the 3rd gen V8 vs 4th gen V6, then it's possible this kit will work! ;)

It's not a very cheap option...
quote:
This in turn requires correspondingly shortening the rear differential torque arm by 1.9 inches... <snip> ...Retain the stock 27-spline slip-yoke, but shorten the driveshaft by 2 inches...

I dunno... it might work, it might not work. Someone whose more mechanically inclined or knowledgable about the 3rd & 4th gen T5 bellhousings could tell you.

                  Good luck! :D
