  • short overview of 3.73/LSD install...

WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!! these babies run just like i was hoping!!! they leave the line like a bat out of hell and with the LSD spinning is VERY minimal!! I have some G-tech numbers but i dont trust the G-tech, here they are anyways, bone stock i ran a 15.70, w/all my current mods except the gears and cut-out i ran a 15.69  , and after the gear and cutout, i ran a 15.59  !, i dont believe it one bit!

it hauls a$$ on the highway too!, it pulls REAL hard all the way to the governer, and all you people worrying about 1st gear too short???? i dont see how you came to that conclusion?? there is TONS of time to pull second,

when im running 71 MPH its at 2700 by my tach(which on auto-tap is 200 RPM off so its actually 2500)..i will have to get some gas mileage numbers later, ive been racing WAY too much on this tank...BTW i raced my friends 95 A4 LT1 tonight, i pulled on him HARD in 1st and 2nd, then when i went to 3rd he went back around me and ended up beating me about 1-1.5 cars! i was happy w/my lil 6! then i raced another 96 LT1 6-speed, i pulled in 1st and 2nd and got a front end on him, then when i hit 3rd he blew me away, beat me by about 2.5-3...

the only problems i have is the governer kicks in at 98MPH now, the SLP processor fixed the speedo and my rev limiter is still 5900 but it doesnt really bother me though, i rarely run that fast anyways so its all good! all in all im VERY happy!!! :D :D :D

so, how many rpm's are you at when you hit the speed limiter/governor? I'm thinking about getting the gears and lsd too. you got the $700 kit, right?

Pat - he has the 5 spd, not the auto.

So WickEd - Let's say you're going 65mph on the highway an you decide to punch it - does it pull hard? People always complain and speculate that the engine "falls on its face" in the high gears at higher speeds - what do you have to say regarding this?

man, this thing pulls better from start to finish!! there is not a slight bit of the car running out of steam!!when it hits the speed limiter its still pulling REAL hard for more! its definately a must for all 5 speeds!!!

BTW, i didnt buy a "kit", i bought all my stuff separate because i can get deals through my dad...hes a dealer on all kinds of stuff! i can sell yall a set of brand new gears for $170+ shipping and a master installation kit for $100+ shipping...

I'd like to know what gear you finish the quarter mile in.

At what mph (if taking it to the max) do you shift at, to go into 4th?

What did you do to recalibrate the speedo? And I to would like to know what gear you finish the quarter in, at what speed, and your 60' times.

Where did you buy your gears? How much were they? What brand are they? What additional parts did you need to buy for the install and how much did that cost? How much was it to get them installed? Or did you install them yourself and if so how difficult was it?

I ask because I would like to do the same.

i recalibrated my speedo with the SLP processor, P/N 63008, it worked good other than my governer is at 98mph now...

i bought the gears from my dad, i can sell you a set for $170 plus shipping, they are GM Motive gears, you have to buy an installation kit if you do the install yourself, i bought the Ratech complete kit w/Timken bearings, gaskets, crush sleeve, ring gear bolts, and pinion nut, i can also sell this to you for $100 w/shipping....if you have no clue how to set up a rear end to begin with, i wouldnt try myself w/o someone there that knows how and can help you, i knew how to set up 9" fords but had never done a 10bolt before, it was a ***** at first because the first set of gears i got were bad, but i got all that straightened out w/the company i bought them from, they said they had never had any problems and they sent me another set

im not sure what MPH i shift at goin into 4th, w/the 3.23's it was around 85, but im not sure w/3.73's, ill have to go see in a minute...i finish the quarter in 4th gear at about 4800-5000 RPM's...i havent taken it to the track yet, but hopefully i will very soon...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but our cars shift to 4th at WOT at something over 100mph. So you'll never get to 4th at WOT if your speedo stops at 98 or so. Also with those speedo correction things like SLP or jetscu, your shifts will still be off. It does not fix shifts.

hey Dom, read the sig buddy!! its a manual!!! plus i dont plan on running N2O so the 98mph limiter doesnt matter...once my car is in the 14's im done modding it, i will start saving for my buick headed 355 then...

BTW, i went and drove my car,i dont know why this matters, but i shifted into 4th gear at 73mph @5500...
