• How Do I Know I Got 3.42s ?

I was just wondering, how do i know the gears I bought are 3.42s and not something else? Is there any number in the gears itself? I don't want to install them and then realize they sent me something else instead of 3.42s.
Thanks for any help.

It might be likely you have them...

check your glove box, and look for the code GU6 that is the RPO code for gears.

The code for LSD is G80...

if you have the code GU5 then you have 3.08s...

there is nothing on the gear itself to know that it's a 3.42 ratio. when you pull out the old pinion it will be significantly smaller than your old one. im afraid thats the only way to know for sure. where did you order them from???

You can count the teeth on the pinion and gear....take the teeth on the gear and divide by the teeth on the pinion...should be 3.42

But these are gears that he bought from someone. Not the gears that he has on the car.

Yes, I only have the W68 package with 3.08 gears. I was asking about the gears I bought from ThunderRacing. I bought 3.42s but a couple days ago I started to wonder what if they made a mistake and send me the wrong ones? How would I know if I got the right gears.

Ok, since these are NOT original gears....Count the teeth on the ring gear, then count the number of teeth on the pinion gear. Ring gear # divided by pinion gear number = YOUR GEAR RATIO:)

My bad, it was a typo

thanks for setting it straight...

also didn't catch they were not in the car. Like said ring gear/pinion gear. I am not sure if they are stamped with a part number or not.

Either way I wouldn't sweat it unless I bought them used.
