• 700R4 or 4L60E?

I got a LT1 today(no wiring harnes or PCM) and was wondering what transmission I would be better off with. I want this car in the 11's and I dont know which is stonger..a 4L60E or a 700R4. I believe a 93 camaro came with a 700R4 so if that transmission is stonger I should look for a wiring harness and PCM for that year. I have a 97 Camaro RS. Also, if the 4L60 is stronger what needs to be done to my stock one (for a v6) to make it able to handle this new v8? Thanks in advance for any help.

V6 4L60E will not fit the V8. I believe that they are both the same strength of they are built with the same parts....almost all parts are interchangable between the two transmissions. Goto www.transmissioncenter.net for some good ideas on what you can do to your tranny.

Only after 97 was the bellhousing removable. Do you plan on using the dremel?

A 700R4 is a non-computer controlled 4L60E. Basically, a 4L60 (with NO 'e' on the end) is a 700R4. It is common in new generation v8 swaps utilizing an LT1 engine for the tranny being used to be a 4L60E (i.e. LT1 in an s-10, s-10's use the stock tranny, the 4L60E, and just swap the motors.....no tranny work needed).
