Well Since I got my higher stall torque converter, i have noticed many things, good and bad. Lets start with the good first. I can now stall up to almost 2500rpms off the launch (but i burn those tires like a mother). umm ok well thats the only good thing lol. Here are the bad things and i need people to explain why it is doing this (im sure its normal, im just uneducated about it so far i guess). Ok first, my car used to shift around 2000-2500 in first gear with hardly any throttle. Now, even if im driving incredibly slow, it waits till 3000 rpms to shift! Do u know how weird that sounds to the person driving the to you?? Theyre thinking, "Shift dangit Shift!! Stupid kids..lol" Next, If I leave it in D4th (like i used to do) it will shift at like 4000 or so in every gear, WTF!? It used to redline like it should. Now if i wanna race i have to start it in 1st, hold it to redline, then upshift and so on. How dumb. Oh also, if im cruisin at like 30mph and i mash on it, the car USED to downshift to 1st gear and throw me back in the seat. NOW it doesnt downshift at all. None of the gears do except if im in OD, then it will downshift to 3rd i think. So whats the deal here, is it supposed to feel like this? My mechanic just told me its fine and im "supposed" to be manually shifting it, even when im cruisin and want to floor it. Wuts up?

I got a "shift improver" shift kit installed at the same time. Would that have anything to do with it?93 3.4L red Firebird
CompCams cam, fully ported heads, High stall Tq Converter, Rebuilt tranny with shift kit, stage 2 jet chip, ported throttle body, 3.73 gears w/ posi, K&N FIPK intake, Flowmaster exhaust with cutout, pulleys, throttle body bypass

A high stall converter didn't affect my shift points at all, just the way the car feels. You should probably have that shift kit checked out, it maybe wasn't installed right.-Eric
2002 Navy Blue Camaro...Striped and Stalled. 35th Anniversary SS wheels
Best ET: 15.384 @ 88.32 on street tires
Project Whitney: Goal, 14.0 1/4 by summer 2008.

I got the shift improver at kragen. Its not the kind you just plug in, it goes in the valvebody like all other shift kits. Anyways i asked this on another message board too and they think that the converter is just slipping as its supposed to do. Maybe i just got too high a stall for my car. My mechanic said there were 3 stages of converter and he got stage 3, so maybe its just too high for my application. I didnt think the shift kit did anything but firm up the shifts. I'm pretty sure its the converter making this difference.93 3.4L red Firebird
CompCams cam, fully ported heads, High stall Tq Converter, Rebuilt tranny with shift kit, stage 2 jet chip, ported throttle body, 3.73 gears w/ posi, K&N FIPK intake, Flowmaster exhaust with cutout, pulleys, throttle body bypass

Your high RPM during normal driving is perfectly fine. That's what a loose converter does. I used to cruise around at 2k, now its at 3.5k. Your 4K WOT shift points are not right and the not downshifting under WOT is not right either. Have the car checked out. Did you get the shift kit at the same time as the converter?

I don't know about 93 birds but my tranny has been weird since my rebuild and verter install. I found out that it's the Torque mgmnt feature in our PCM's that doesn't like shift kits for some reason. I'm getting a tune to correct for this. You might get a Jet Chip since you are in the acceptable years and see if that helps you out any.2000 Firebird.
