Tranny Removal

I'm driving and I hear what I thought to be a a bad u-joint which I replaced, but still made the same noise. The clutch started making a funny chattering which would go away after a while. As I was driving home the other day I shifted and heared the pop and then the clutch pedal felt really weird. The pedal gets progressivly worse, until I try to shift and I hear a bang. After that I couldn't shift or put the car into gear or anything.

So, here's the question. I'm trying to get the tranny off and I have everything disconnected, except for the hydraulic line (how do you get that off?) and the tranny will not slide off. Has anyone had this problem before? Any tips, advice, etc. would be appreciated.

Yeah spent hours deciphering this BS. Look at the line and you will see a white plastic sleeve right on the end where it connects ot the tranny. At first it looks like you need to remove it, but DO NOT. You need to slide this sleeve IN towards the tranny. You can use two flat head screw drivers to do this, one on each side to apply even pressure, or you can buy a tool just for this. When you slide this sleeve in towards the fitting it will engage the quick release on the connection and it will pretty much pop itself out. To resinstall just click it back in and put the sleeve in its place. Pretty simple, but if you don't know how it works you will sit there for a while. Good luck bench presing the tranny.

lol I remember when we were trying to get mine out. Sorry just thinking about it made me laugh.

The easiest way getting the tranny back in is have 1-2 friends help you, but if none are avalable you can use a floor jack. Balance the tanny on it and jack it up. Took me 5 mins to get the tranny back in. I had to do this last weekend.

Take a flathead screwdriver. No, not the precision jeweler's ones, but a semi-small big one. Shove it down in the grove, taking the plastic ring with you. I spent hours with little ones, and bought each kind of disconnect I could find to no avail. Eventually just took my big ol stanley flathead, shoved it down there, and it disconnected.

If you have a 3.8, DO NOT try and remove the tranny from the bellhousing. YOU WILL Break your slave hydraulics. Just undo the 5 or 6 or whatever bolts around the circle, and then the 4 bolts (2/side) that go to the engine mounts. Put a jack under it, and yank it back. When everything on mine was disconnected, it came out like WHOA.

Going in wasn't too bad, just had to wiggle and line up things right. Enjoy it! Get a friend's help. And don't yell at your girlfriend too much!
