  • Tranny Rebuilt or new one??

My car has 107,000 miles and the tranny seems to be downshifting fairly hard. My plans for this car are to get a turbo kit and after my motor dies swap in a rebuilt motor.
well since I wanna get turbo I know I need to get a much stronger transmission since the stock one can't hold that much torque. Anyone know how much it would be to rebuilt my tranny to hold more power?
I also want to install a transgo shift kit, corvette servo, and a higher stall converter.
So any suggestions?? Should I get it rebuilt and where? or should I just buy a new already built for power one??

    thanks

BTW I've already done the search and found nothing useful

Mine cost $1600 to rebuild with carbon fiber and kevlar internals(on top of a full rebuild) if that gives you an idea. I haven't had a problem with mine since and it shifts HARD I bark the 1-2 every time at anythign over 50% throttle.

I had to have mine rebuilt after going through a stock converter, a no name 2800 stall converter and a PI Vig 3500 converter (I broke them all)and yes I had a tranny cooler installed the entire time. It busted up my tranny a bit when I shredded the internals to the PI VIG.

I also have a vette servo and TransGO
(this is on the stock converter)
I have a Yank 2800 converter waiting to be installed.

You're going to want to do some research before you decide what all you're going to put into the tranny.

My suggestion would be to research it well, get beefed-up parts (GM and aftermarket companies make them), and get it built by a competent professional.

And, if you're going to sink the money for a new motor with a turbo, get the tranny rebuilt. You don't know what you're going to get in a remanned tranny (there aren't many new trannies aftermarket anymore, they're mainly rebuilds).

Get to know your local tranny guys... getting a good rebuild with better parts, shift kit, etc.

http://www.transmissioncenter.net/4L60E.htm is a good place for a reman, though.

I am taking my tranny out today for a rebuild.

$468 in parts, maybe a new torque converter which is 200. Plus $200 for the install.

MAKE SURE you know who is rebuilding it... otherwise you're wasting money.

And go with synthetic fluid or you'll also be wasting your money.
