Depending on the year of your car (98+ I believe) you have torque management. Torqe management will reduce the benefits of the shift kit on your car.

There is a person on the board (I believe Timbo) that has had issues with the shift kit and torque management.

Westers custom programming and the HP Tuners product will remove the torque management. (Actually Westers "removes all torque management that can be safely removed")

TSP does as well.... I had mine done last week. We're going over the shift kit now to see what might be wrong with it. I may have to change to a TransGo... ;)

i heard with computer programming they can pretty much make shifting much more firmer, and makes it pretty much like having a shift kit in the car. Therefore you really don't need one with custom tuning.

Yeah, my shifts are pretty firm with my Wester's programming.

I asked Lyndon (Lyndon Wester is the guys name) about a shift kit and he recommended against a shift kit with his programming. He said they raise the line pressure in the programming and anything that further raises the line pressure could cause tranny problems.

I suppose you could ask him to not mess with the firmness of the shifts and then install a shift kit and be fine. You would have to talk to him to confirm/deny.

I had a TransGo shift kit installed to my car a month ago and I didn't reprogram or remove any "Torque Management" (which by the way I don't know what it does). The kit seems to be working fine. Am i missing something here?

Torque Management reduces power during the shift. Supposed to reduce shock to the drivetrain.

The KDS performance website has a FAQ that mentions that torque management may reduce the effectivness of the shift kit. I can neither confirm or deny this. But that is what KDS says (kds sells shift kits for our cars).

my 1-2 shift is VERY snappy now after my TSP Tune. 2-3 and 3-4 is about as hard as 1-2 used to be.

Yeah, my 1-2 shift with Westers causes a whip lash motion of my head now.

THe PCM will see the short shifts, and think there's something wrong in the drivetrain, and reduce engine power to protect the drivetrain.

With HP Tuner, you can change your shift times, and either remove, or work around, the torque management.

As to shift kits boosting the line pressure way up, they don't have to. With a good shift kit, you can quicken the shifts, increase the apply speed and holding pressure without going wild with the line pressure.
