I want to get a new Driveshaft for my drop top and I was wondering what the difference is wieght is between the 1 piece steel driveshaft(from a Lt1), an Al. driveshaft(from a Ls1), and 1le from Gm direct.

4-5 lbs if I remember correctly. Nothing that is going to be earth shattering when considered with the weight of the car as a whole, but it makes a fair difference when you consider your transmission is turning something that much lighter. If you had to twist the driveshaft with your forearm, wouldn't you want to twist something that's a little lighter? I'm getting me a 1LE DS right after I finish off my exhaust with some Pacesetters. Is this something I can install myself with little trouble or not? I just installed my 1 piece AL DS last night (of course I had the whole rearend off too). There are 4 bolts at the back of the DS attaching it to the diff housing. If you undo those 4 bolts you can push the ds into the tranny, drop the back end, then slip the front out of the tranny.
