hey guys, this has really begun to bother me lately. When I'm leaving my developement, my car shifts into 2nd gear really slowly. It's almost like the car is getting lazy or something. Anyways, like I'll leave a stop sign and as it goes to shift into 2nd I feel it disengage 1st gear. Then it'll have like a full second before it grabs second and it'll jerk a small amount (jerk being relative, it's a soft jerk). Does this sound like a slipping tranny? And what would I do to remedy that? I do think the car is due for a tranny fluid change, would that be the cause of this?? I hope it's that simple, wanted to get assurance of it. Anyways, thanks for the input guys ~Jason

mine takes a while to engage into 2nd if i get on the gas a little while rolling. I think it could be the TC being so loose from the factory, and driving it just makes it looser over time. It could also be the clutch and friction plates in the tranny being worn out for the 1-2 shift. u could fix this either w/ a shift kit, tranny rebuild, a TC, or a combo of the three, depending on the cause. If I were u, I'd save up some major cash in case it takes a dump on u so u can pay 2 get it rebuilt w/ quality components.2001 Arctic White Firebird<br />More mods than I\'m allowed to list!

well, I cant use hpp3 on a 98 unfortunately. I really wish they made more available across the entire year range for our cars, all these specific years means some products never come out for us....
Anyways, maybe I'll try changing the fluid and adding a transgo kit to my car. Hopefully that'll do something. I guess if the tranny takes a dump on me I'd probably just grab one off eBay and get another tranny rather than rebuilding mine. The car has 55k miles on it, is there an expected avg life for our tranny's? if it's going out early, I hope the last owner didn't beat too hard on all my other components too. But anyways, I'll give a shift kit a try and see how that helps me out. You said yours is slow with regular driving though too, correct? Maybe it's something that I just never noticed before.
