  • Tranny problems, HELP!

Ok, yesterday I went on a short road trip to pick up my new headers. When I was no more than 15 miles from being home, my tranny started acting up. All day it was fine, no clunk sounds, no leaks, nothing. I stopped at a light, and when I got back up to speed and went to put it in 5th gear, it wouldn't go. I tried over and over and it still won't go into 5th. Once I stopped again, I tried to go into reverse, same thing. So I am somehow locked out of 5th and reverse. The other four gears function properly. Anyone had any problems like this? What was the problem is similar, and solution? We are planning on dropping the tranny tomorrow or Sunday, and would like some ideas of what is wrong before we dive into it, or if it's bad enough, take it straight to the shop. THANKS.

Anyone?! There have been like 4 posts in the last 24 hours in here. Someone has to know SOMETHING about this tranny.

Does it grind? Explain a little more about the failure to get it into gear.

Reverse is not a syncronized gear, just to make sure. Have you tried putting it in reverse from 4th gear (sitting still of course) to help keep the gears meshed up correctly?

How does your tranny fluid look? Have you checked it?

There's no grinding...it is as stated above like a wall or something keeping me out of gear. I have tried putting it in all other gears first to get it to go in, no luck. Fluid was changed less than 2 months ago, no leaks still.

Thanks for the help. Turns out the clutch forks for 5th and reverse were bent. Also 5th gear syncro ring was not pretty anymore. Should be done by Thursday soemtime.
