Transmission Question

I originally posted this on ls1.com but it seems no1 is around.........

In my 94 firebird my trans goes from 1,2,3, drive. I also have a button that says "trans perf"..what does that do??

while in my 95 camaro the shifter read 1,2,drive,then overdrive. While it is in regular drive it lets me push the shifter down into second while in the firebird when its in drive i actually have to push the button then shift down.

What is the differnce in these 2 transmission???
Firebird seems to pull better at higher rpms while the camaro seems to take off quicker. The bird seems to love being over 3K while the camaro just dies around 3100.

The two transmissions are the same.

The "trans perf" button changes the way the computer tells the transmission to shift. I think it only increases the line pressure to make the shifts a little more firm.

The difference in the gear selectors is just a cosmetic thing between the camaro and firebirds. Drive on a firebird is 4th gear, while drive on the camaro is 3rd gear. On either vehicle, if you put it into 4th gear, you shouldn't be able to pull it back without pushing the button down.

They should make no difference in the way the car pulls unless one of them is on its way out.

You also said it should make no diff in the way the car pulls. To me i can feel a difference and so can a couple of my friends. The firebird with 105K miles and gets the sh!t beat out of it would beat the camaro in the race. The camaro has around 90k and i bought it from some1 i knew and the was never beat on whatsoever.

There may be a difference, but it probably isn't from the transmission.

Could one be a 4L60 and ther other a 4L60E? I don't know what year they changed.

93 was the last year (and possibly the only year) for the 4L60. 94-on has been electronically controlled.
