  • What do you need for LSD?

I went to visit my friend on friday and saturday and we were cruising around yesterday and stopped to get gas. This guy pulls up on the other side of the pump and says, "Hey, nice car, I had a 78 Camaro when I was a kid. I bet that thing really gets goin huh." and I just said "Yeah, its not real fast, but it can go. I don't really play with it on the streets." and the guy asked what I had for gears and I told him 3.08's and he said no way, doesn't it come standard with a limited slip differential and higher gears, and I told him it was a V6 so it had an open differential. Then he said I should buy a limited slip gear and get it installed, and I said, "Don't you need to get a whole new differential?" and he says, "No, just buy a limited slip gear for a 2-series differential, get it installed, and you're all set." I didn't want to say anything contradicting him because I wasn't sure if he was right or not so I didn't want to make a fool of myself if I were wrong.

So, I always thought that to go from an open diffy to an LSD, you needed to buy a limited slip differential, and not just a gear that makes it a limited slip differential. Am I right or was this other guy right?

You need a limited slip differential or a locker which might be what that guy ment but i wouldn't reccomend that because with a locker than both tires always spin at the same rate and its damn near impossible to park and turn.

I haev a 3-series carrier in my car so I might be wrong but im pretty sure theres no "limited slip gear" correct me if im wrong
