  • Transgo Install

I was just wondering what all was needed when installing the transgo shift kit. I dropped by a local shop today and I have all the parts. The guy told me he had to basically rebuild in order to install it. He said I needed to get a different clutch and some other things upgraded. I've checked on here and people say they do it themselves. What ACTUALLY needs to be installed out of the kit. Any comments or replys would be very helpful. He said it'd cost me $800 to $1100 for everything including the other parts needed and that sounds like BS to me.

Just install the kit and replace the servo. It's not that big of a deal. Go to a different shop

Sorry another question to add. Does the Stage 3 install only deal with parts in the valve body?

I went and talked to him again and he said without a new sun gear and a few other things the torque would break the tranny. I've called around and they've all given me high quotes. What parts out of the kit actually need to be installed for a stage 3 because I don't know exactly what to tell them.

The guy is giving you BS. With a V6 you arn't going to damage your sun gear, at least not without some serious power adders.

The transgo only deals with the valve body and the 2-4 servo (on the side of the tranny). It's not the easiest thing to do. To just install the transgo shouldn't be more than $300 in labor from a shop. You shouldn't need any internal upgrades.

It's not that hard, it just takes patience....it may take a few days without experience, but you need a drill press, a torque wrech, and a few basic tools including a bench grinder....need help, email me, I've done a lot of them. The design of your valvebody may differ from the instructions, they used two different types of servos....anyway, the clutches are a totally different mod, and the sun gear will support up to around 400 hp with any shift kit. Any shop will quote high because the valve body has to come out and it takes a while to swap all the valve springs and servo. You can do it, don't be scared....oh, and also, if you plan on changing the servo, go with a better one like the vette servo, it's only like 20 bucks and it is a dramatic improvement.
